Around the World Blog Hop

I've been tagged by Katie from Karma Willow Designs for the hop. I'm actually a little late in posting! We've all been pretty sick around here! Well, let me introduce myself in case you're new here!

My name is Stephanie. I live in North San Diego and love it! We're die hard SoCal people around here and love where we live. My husband and I are natives to our area. We've never considered moving out of the area but things are about to change for our little family of 4...big time! My husband has decided to enlist into the Army! So, now I'll be an Army wife and be bouncing around all over the place. We're pretty excited and nervous all at the same time. He'll be leaving us next month for Basic Training and then his Job school shortly after. We'll be separated for about 8 months but we'll get through it. So if any of your have any advice for me, please by all means...share!

My sewing adventures began when I was in high school 10 years ago. I was challenged to work on a project of some sort by my Mom. She didn't want us to waste our summer sleeping in an watching TV all day. So I chose to make a quilt. She took me to some LQS in the area of Las Vegas, where we lived at the time, and I picked out all the prints I wanted. I chose to do a simple strip piece quilt. Of course, I didn't know what I was doing and she helped me tremendously. It was a lot of fun and it took me about 8 years for the quilt to actually get quilted by a long armer. A little FF (fun fact) about me...I don't quilt. Don't let the blog name fool you. I can sew just about anything but ask me to quilt something....I'm lost. I blame the impatient bone in my body. I've tried and tried to like it but it's just not happening. I don't care to learn and when I'm done with a quilt top...I'm done. Off to the long armer it goes. I have no desire to quilt anything and strain my back. I already suffer from back problems enough. 

Enough complaining. I've been sucked into the world of Instagram and have really been lagging on my blogging here. I'm sorry but IG is just so convenient and quick. I've been posting most of my work on there. Lately, I've been selling wallets through IG. I've been wanted to put some up in my Etsy shop but I've had very little time to make extra. I'm been slammed with preorders left and right. 

So things are getting pretty fun here with my daughter becoming older. She's 2 1/2 now so playtime is really fun. She's been sucked into the world of Disney's Frozen just like all the other little girls in world. With this obsession, an Anna costume was in order. What better way to play as Anna than with an Anna cape? So I set off on making one for her just in time for her little friend's birthday party. It came out so wonderful and she loves wearing it now. I'm "Makin' It Cute" Today!

How fun are these flower templates from Me and My Sister Designs??? Well, let me tell you! They are adorable! Fat Quarter Shop sent me a pack to try out and I love them! The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The flowers came together quickly and were so fun to make! It hardest part was choosing the fabric...of course! So here's my version of the little flowers all put together...

Fun right? I thought this would look great on a crochet beanie for my daughter. She loves to wear hats so it was a good match for her :)

Here are some other fun ways to use the flowers. I'm using swap items I've received in the past in case you were wondering.

Tula Pink's City Sampler Blocks 48-55

I'm whipping up these blocks like hot cakes! So glad to finally be over the triangle chapter!!! Onto stripes and Haiku then I'm all done...I think :)

It's taken all my energy to finally get around to writing this post! Sheesh!

A big thanks for Mdm Samm of Sew We Quilt for hosting as always!

I just don't have the energy or creativity to make something up on my own right now. Too many brain cells are required for that and I'm just too dang tired at the moment. Pregnancy is so much fun isn't it? 

So I decided to use a lovely cathedral window pattern from Kim at My Go-Go Life on Moda Bakeshop for this hop. I used some lovely charms of "Sophie" by Chez Moi for Moda I had on hand. I made the cute little flower in the center to hide my seams. They turned out pretty good actually...but I still wanted to hide them anyways. Besides, the flower gives it the "cute" factor it needs plus a little dimension. It's just the right touch :)

Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm...I'm sure it'll start coming back slowly as the first trimester passes.

I'm a Hexie Queen today with a GIVEAWAY!

Welcome to my blog all Sew We Quilt readers! It's my turn on the "Be a Hexie Queen" Blog Hop. 

I love hexagon projects but haven't really made any prior to this hop. Can you believe that? I don't know why it took me so long to get around to do something entirely made of hexagons. Maybe it's the fact that I don't feel like sewing them by hand one at a time or that "Y" seams are intimidating if they're precut? Those are both pretty good reasons to me...

When I first started my blog, I made a 12" mini quilt with a hexagon flower but nothing since then.

This blog hop was a great push to get me to do something fun! I started thinking about what I wanted to do and decided to make a cute little pouch. Picking out fabrics is always the hardest best part of any project. I decided to go with only 3 prints instead picking big enough pieces from my scrap stash in all different colors. I used the "Hex N More" Ruler from Jaybird Quilts. It worked great and I was able to cut perfect 2.5" hexies for my pouch.

Well, I got over my irrational fear of "Y" seams and here's what the little cutie ended up looking like. I gotta admit...I'm impressed with my first try. I was expecting an epic fail!

Here's a few other projects I made along with this cute pouch. The Hexagon Trivet pattern is from the book "Patchwork, Please" by Ayumi Takahashi. The white one is something I whipped up a few days ago.

Who wants this cute little hexagon pouch? I'm comfortable enough to give it away to a special reader! I'll fill it up with a bunch of 2.5" hexagons to help get you started with a hexie project of your own! I'll make sure all the fabrics are fun modern prints in styles that I usually use.
