Let's Get Acquainted Blog Hop & Giveaway!

Let's get acquainted blogger hop

Welcome Quilty readers to my little part of the blogging universe. I hope you had a great 4th of July yesterday! I'm so excited to be a part of the this blogger hop and want to thank Beth of Plum and June for organizing it!

I'm a new blogger for sure! I've only been blogging here since March 2013. It's been a fun adventure in sewing so far and I know that it'll keep getting better and better.

Here are some recent projects I've done.
Check out my Flickr page to see more beauties!

You probably guessed that I have a thing for color. Ha! Understatement of the year! Color is all around me. Seriously. It's almost like a rainbow threw up exploded all over my sewing projects. No joke. I love color. I'm not a black & white or neutral kinda gal. The more color the better. Yes, even I know it can be overkill sometimes but whenever there's a chance for it, I take it! I've always loved brights colors for as long as I could remember and seem to be drawn to bold prints. Ok, enough about my color infatuation. Here's a little Q &A:

A little about me...

When did you start quilting/who taught you?
I've been sewing since I was 16. My mom is a quilter and taught me almost everything I know sewing related. It's fun getting together with her and talking quilts and sewing. She's my quilty buddy so shopping around for fabric at our favorite shops is always a blast! I only recently started working on other projects besides quilts. I'm having so much fun busting out these cute little Zakka projects! I can't stop!

Why did you start your blog?
I actually started my blog to document my work and to teach close friends how to get started. I have many girlfriends that want to learn how to sew but don't know where to start. Well, I'm not a magician. I can't make duplicates of myself and be in a million places at the same time. We all have different schedules and there is NO way I can accommodate all their requests to learn or get everyone together on the same day! SO, the blog was started. They can go at their own pace and learn when they have time. I'll be covering basics a little at a time.

Latest and greatest news for my blog?
I was asked to compile a Blogger's Choice Bundle for Fat Quarter Shop! This was/is huge news for me because I've only been blogging since March! I'm so honored to be chosen by Kimberly. Click over to their online shop to sign up for a notification when it's available!

Do you belong to or would you like to belong to bees, QALs, etc?
If you've been keeping up with me you know the answer is yes. I'm heavily involved in the online quilting community and currently participating in numerous Quilt Alongs, Bees & Swaps. You can view the current ones I'm in on the sidebar. I think I *might* have a problem. When I see an opportunity...I take it. Is that bad?

*****I'm actually hosting the Triple-Zip Pouch Swap! Sign-ups close after tomorrow July 6th so sign up now if you're interested. Sign ups are CLOSED. Join the Flickr Page as well!*****

What type of sewing machine do you use?
This is a funny question to me. Not the actual question but my answer I guess. I sew with a Brother Nouvelle 1500s. It's a high speed straight stitch machine with some serious power. If you want a fast machine, this is it. Here's a great review of it. 1500 stitches per minute! It's funny because unlike a typical sewing machine, I can ONLY straight stitch. Yep, that's it! No zig-zags, blanket stitch, fancy stitches, etc. Nothing. Only a simple running stitch. So, how do I manage to do these other stitches? I use my Mom's Pfaff if I absolutely must! Haha! She only lives about 5 minutes from my place :)

What other hobbies do you have?
Living in Southern California gives you more than a few options for hobbies. I love the beach so swimming is high on the list. Yes...I'm one of the few that actually get IN the water. You'll find that most girls hang out on the sand and tan all day. I'd rather swim and have fun in the water! I love to hike. I have a blast seeing different landscapes and hiking all over them. I must admit it's been harder with a baby (and some baby weight I'm not too fond of) but I still enjoy it. With hiking comes a love for photography. I'm no professional but love it. My husband went to school for it because of all our trips & hiking. You can view his work HERE

What other social media do you actively use?
Currently I'm active on Facebook, Pinterest & Flickr. I do have a Twitter & Instagram account but don't really use them too much.

  17. Hi Stephanie. Great to read about your newish blog and how quickly you've got started with it. I've read a few times on a few different blogs, how people have been able to get their name 'out there' and be invited to do things such as the Bloggers Choice Bundle that you did, or be given prizes to use as giveaways on the blog etc, but how did that actually come about?! How were you able to get your blog to their attention?
