Blogiversary Giveaway!

Quarter Incher Blogiversary Giveaway!

I can't believe I've been blogging here a whole year! Yowza! It's been fun peeps, it really has. Here are a few things I've learned over the past year...

  • I'm apparently obsessed with swapping (Thanks Amanda for pointing this out to me)
  • I've bought more fabric in the past year than in my whole life before blogging
  • I like sewing/quilting books I suppose. I somehow ended up with 26 new books on my shelf
  • I've found my quilting/sewing/fabric style is modern. (I only really knew Civil before because that's what my Mom likes and uses/buys)
  • I don't like quilt kits or BOM kits. I like picking my own fabrics out for projects
  • The online quilting community is AMAZING and SO supportive! I've made so many friends and love reading comments from readers!
  • I've learned how to use Flickr, Instagram, Facebook Fan Page, Gmail, Google Docs & Blogger like nobody's business...BAM!
  • My life motto is "Google it"....seriously people for reals. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is on Google. Someone has seriously taken the time to blog or video about whatever it is that you need or have a question on. Yep! Why your eye twitches, What type of needle to use for what, When the next comet is coming, How to fix your broken xbox, Who invented lint rollers. It's pretty amazing...in more ways than one. I would not have this blog if Google wasn't around to answer all the stupid blogger codes issues/questions I had.
  • I've stepped outside my "comfort zone" or quilty narrow-mindedness and made many many non-quilt items. I really enjoy making something I've never tried before. I think the quick finish is something I like too.

Anyways, enough about me and blah blah blah. It's time to celebrate! I love you guys so much that I'm willing to throw a giveaway! Since it's my 1 year Blogiversary AND for going over 500 Bloglovin followers AND to celebrate 200 blog posts! Yay!!!

  4. Happy Blogiversary and congrats on a great first year. I too have learned so much this past year. I've learned to blog, to be more creative, that I may have bought too much fabric but that there is possibly no such thing as too much fabric, that I love to swap, that I much prefer to design my own than to follow the patterns, and that I'll never be done learning!

    ReplyDelete
  38. oh man, this last year has been crazy! Moving with children is a lot of work. When you make a quilt in a Fandom, you will get a lot of attention, and people will want to buy it. ReplyDelete

I've been quilting for over 25 years and usually make traditional quilts, but this past year I started branching out some and have been collecting some modern fabrics to make a quilt. Someday I'll find the perfect pattern and get it made.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You're welcome? haha I am obsessed with swaps too, there are worse things. Congrats on the blogiversary! I've learned that you can make anything...ANYTHING if you only try. Don't be scared of zippers, don't shy away from certain fabrics or techniques. Just try it! Thanks for being an awesome inspiration, Stephanie. *hugs*

    ReplyDelete
  56. Last year I learned that 1) change is good and 2) every little bit helps. When it comes to sewing, cleaning, being friends, getting in shape, reading a book, and so on! In my sewing I'm learning - and just now putting into practice that just doing something is better than nothing and again every little bit of sewing helps cement skills and develop confidence. Last year was more most exciting in a long time as we got to live in a different state for most of it. It's so easy for me to measure when I did something and to see my progress or need to change. Sounds like you had a great year too. Thanks for letting us all learn and observe. Best wishes.

  57. I am learning to read and re-read whatever comment I make on blogs to stop making errors (Yeah, that's gonna happen!!). However, if my errors can make you laugh when you need it, Stephanie, I will continue to make errors in my blog comments, because I do like to make people laugh.
Congrats on your blogaversary. Keep up the good work. Good luck on the giveaway everyone.

  78. Happy Blogiversary! I learned machine machine applique (raw edge and no fusible web.) I learned it holds up much better than I ever thought it would. I was hesitant because I thought it would fall apart. I tried it in a very small section for a scrappy dog quilt that I gave to my sister in law for her 2 dogs to share. It has been getting lots of daily abuse, is slept on every night, and has been washed at least once a week since the end of last May. The applique is hanging on tight. I stitched very close to the edge a few times around so there isn't as much fraying.

I've learned lots of things; piecing basics, that scant 1/4" seam, sewing binding on (making it, joining it and mitred corners too) and that I love to sew it down by hand, which suprised me because I always thought I'd much prefer to do it by machine.

I need more time to create than I have, That for years I have been using my cutting mat and rulers backwards and no matter how hard I try my applique always looks like crap so it is time to throw in the towel because everybody can't do everything and there is nothing wrong with that.

    ReplyDelete

  135. Happy blogoversary, Stephanie! I've learned (timidly, but getting better!) how to piece curves and that the right tools and notions make for a much happier sewing and quilting experience, so it's worth some investment : )

  136. Congratulations on your anniversary! I am new to quilting, so I've learned so many new things this year, but the most critical one was how to sew the (almost) perfect 1/4 inch seam. I'm still fine tuning it, but it's soooo much better than when I first started!!

  137. Congrats! You are sooo prolific! This year I finally learned the different between 1/4 in seam, true quarter and scant quarter. Much nicer scrappy trip blocks, and much happier mama quilter!

  141. I've learned something I have known for years but had to be thumped to remember it. There comes a time when we have to step back and look at our lives, our families and our needs. It came to me that this is the year for me and my family. We need quilts, not for decoration but rather to cover our hiney's with in the cold weather. So for one year, I have laid away my guilt over not blogging weekly, not hostessing sponsored giveaways, not joining in on every SAL, QAL, BOM, etc... that I wanted to. This year there will be no quilting for customers, nor making quilts for customers, this year is me and familly. Happy Anniversary~!

  143. Congratulations! I just passed my one year blogging anniversary at the beginning of the month and I have learned so.so.much. It's amazing how much i have learned, like how to put someone's button on my blog (and what a button is to begin with). Thanks for a great giveaway!

  144. Congratulations! In one year you've managed to attract a lot of followers, including myself. That says a lot about the content you are presenting. It sounds like you've learned a lot too. In the last year, I've learned that I should sew projects that I enjoy, rather than try to push myself to sew whatever is popular with other bloggers. I've also realized that sometimes, I should just sew, even if all I am doing is creating piles of new projects rather than stressing about completing what I have already started. I've also learned not to feel guilty about not enjoying FMQ and be happy with my preferred Stitch in the Ditch.

  150. I am so glad you asked this question. It makes me realize how important it is to constantly try new things. At work, I learned how to navigate Excel and Microsoft Outlook. That really helped me professionally. In the quilting world, I learned finally, where to place my fabric on my machine to get the perfect quarter inch. I still havent learned how to keep my sewing area organized though!! Congratulations Didnt that year go by quickly!

  151. I've learned that there is a lot to be proud of when making things with your hands. From perfection to little mistakes only you would notice. I made a quilt for my toddler daughter (first time completing a quilt) and it was the most rewarding thing to hear her say: " Pretty mommy, pretty." :)
