Dumbo for #disneyquiltswap2015

Well, it's time for the reveal of my Disney Mini for the #disneyquiltswap2015 on Instagram. My partner really made it clear that Dumbo was her absolute favorite! She added like five or six exclamation points after stating Dumbo as her number one choice. I really don't blame her. Dumbo is such a cute movie! I totally view it differently as a mother than a child and it's easy to love. My mom's favorite happens to be Dumbo too. I always thought it was lame as a kid but now I get it. I still have my favorites though. I have a thing for Monsters Inc. and Beauty and the Beast. I think it's the doors and the fact that Belle doesn't take any crap from Beast. Her brown hair is plus too. I can relate to her the most. 

Well, my partner asked for a minimal creation. So I was on the hunt for Minimal poster art for Dumbo and found some rather awesome ones. I put out a "poll" if you will on Instagram for what people liked. I ultimately decided to use a Disneyland Jungle Cruise poster I found and improvised with bubbles instead of water, changed the colors and added the Dumbo text in the original movie font. I'm pretty handy with the sewing machine when it comes to applique but when it came to the quilting part....I was stumped. I decided to go with echo quilting since quilting really isn't my thing. In fact, I just plain don't know how to FMQ or care to learn how to. I'm too impatient to learn honestly. There are many times when I wished I knew how to though. The backing is a cute flannel I found at Joanns in the Disney section. I had to have it! It was perfect!

This little beauty is off to it's new home along with a few goodies. Enjoy partner!

Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork, Please - Swedish Bloom Mini Quilt

This week was yet another quilt for the Zakka Along. As usual, I have all the time in the world to make a quilt but can't commit that much effort at this time. I couldn't decide what to make the Swedish Bloom block into. I was thinking about it for days! I just decided to make it into a cute "little" wall hanging with my daughter's name on it. So the secret is out now...about her name that is :)

This "little" quilt top measures 19" x 27.5" and it's made entirely out of scraps with exception to the dot border fabric and the light pink petal center fabric.

I haven't decided on the backing for it yet. I'll probably hand quilt it. I'll post about it when it's completed.

Sent Fabric Basket Package

I never showed you the fabric basket package I put together for my partner. She has received it so I can finally    blog about this! Here were my goodies for her...

4 Fat quarters (the purple one isn't shown), 2 spools of hand quilting thread, a pincushion, a small journal, some bakers twine, this fabulous little 12" mini quilt I made for her, a box of skittles, some rose petal purple bath confetti, a postcard, card & purple keyfob!

I had a lot of fun with the basket and picking out fun items for her. I hope she's happy!

Mini String Quilt Completed

Here is my completed String Fever project! This was a great excuse to finished some blocks I had started a few months ago. It's all quilted and ready to be used on top of my white bookshelf.

These little suckers are fun but so hard to keep the white strings perfectly straight, sheesh! You can see how my white X's are all jacked up. Oh well, you live and you learn. I chose to do purple raw edge binding. I like the way the fray edge looks after it washes. I quilted it with random lines all over and backed it with a dark pink corduroy. Retro Rubies 30's Sampler Mini Quilt

So I decided to sample the Retro Rubies pattern using some 30's prints that I have on hand. I thought.."Well, another little wall hanging couldn't hurt". Ha! If I had any wall space! I needed to "practice" this pattern before I cut into my Kaffe prints for the real deal. I've never sewn curves before I wanted to see how I'd do. Well- it was A LOT easier than I thought! It turned out to be quite easy in fact! I'm not saying I'm willing to do all kinds of crazy stars or anything yet. But maybe a "Drunkard's Path" quilt wouldn't be as much of a challenge as I originally thought. Here's how my sampler turned out. Cute, right? I'm thinking Green 30's for the binding. That would bring in all the fun colors!
