Happy Halloween 2013!!!

Yay! I just love Halloween! Now it's really getting fun with my daughter being able to interact more. I can't wait to take her trick-or-treating so I can eat all the candy! Haha! Last year wasn't nearly as fun pushing her around in the stroller as a baby. This year will be much better and next year? Oh my....It'll be a blast with the new baby!

Here's a what Charlie & I dressed up as for our Church event on Saturday! I did my own make-up as the Wicked Witch of the West and had fun dragging around little Dorothy with me all night. Her little pacifier cow will have to be Toto I guess since we couldn't bring our dog Nala to complete the costume. I accidentally left her basket at home too! I had to carry all the candy she got! My husband was a good sport and carried around the diaper bag for her candy. He didn't dress up so I didn't take any pictures of him. Oh well!

Halloween 2013

On a sewing note: I made my very FIRST costume ever! It wasn't even for me or Charlie! It was for a friend of my husbands. He called me up and said he needed my sewing skills in order to make a Peter Pan costume. I was a little nervous since I didn't have a pattern to go off of or anything. I totally just went for it and think it turned out awesome! Take a look!

The Hat, Shirt, Belt & Pants were all made by me!
Peter Pan Costume
I told him to be Robin Hood next year, then Link from Legend of Zelda, maybe Shrek, then Quasimodo.....5 years worth of costumes!

I hand stitched the extra leafy parts on with X's because I didn't want a random seam line running across the bottom of the shirt. I like the way it looks.

The hat was the only part of the costume I used a template for. I found it here and made it bigger by about an inch all the way around to fit an adult. The tip of the brim of the hat was a little tricky but I managed to make it work.

Thanks for stopping by! Things are looking up with the new baby on the way! I can't wait to share with you all the fun news I have! I'll be back posting more frequently as the next few weeks come along! Stay tuned and thanks for being so patient with me!

Happy Halloween!!!

Yay! Just in time for Halloween! My swap items came in :)
Brandi made me some great items that will get great use!

The bag is fabulous and my daughter now has a cute Hello Kitty trick-or-treat bag to use. Isn't the cross-stitch fantastic? I love that little spider hanging off the moon!

The little pouch is adorable and will be prefect for my change in my car.

The little fabric basket will be perfect for my bobbins. I always leave them by my machine just hanging out on the table. Maybe if I keep them safe in this little basket they won't keep getting moved around and lost.

The pincushion is pretty self-explanatory.

Last but not least is the cute burlap ghost banner. I love it!

Halloween Swap items ready to go!

I had some sewing time today and hurried up and finished my Halloween Sewing Swap items. The deadline is tomorrow so I needed to finish up STAT! I managed to finally quilt down the banner and bind it today. Since I'm not really a quilter, I hope she'll accept my "quilting" job. I wanted to do something simple as not to take away from the Disney Mickey Mouse shape. I hope my partner is pleased with everything. I'm more than happy to keep this package if she isn't in love :)

Where have I been? (and a quilt)

Some of you may have been wondering where the heck I went! Well, to be honest...I needed some time away from things. When I say things, I mean everything. I grabbed my stuff last Monday and bailed off to Nevada where my sister's family lives literally in the middle of nowhere. Her husband is a state park ranger so I mean it when I say the middle of nowhere because they live in the state park

It was a great week of total relaxation. I really needed to shut my brain off and not think about anything going on in my life. It was so wonderful to do absolutely nothing. I didn't check my emails, flickr, blog, pinterest, hardly facebook, sent no texts (except family members that needed something), didn't make any unnecessary calls, or shop. Ya, I actually intended to go fabric shopping but when it came down to it....I wasn't in the mood to sew or even look at fabric. I even spent all day Friday sick to my stomach from this little growing baby inside me. I did manage to pay some bills but that's about it.

I just got home and settled in and I feel so revitalized. I feel like I know how to get a handle on things and what's really important to me. It was a time a took out for myself and didn't worry or meet the needs of anyone else with the exception of my daughter. We tend to get so wrapped up in dumb things and deadlines that we're stressing ourselves out and making it hard to focus on what's really important. I really needed to just get away, clear my mind, and not worry about anything. My husband has been gone for work so he wasn't around this past week anyways. It's hard having a husband that travels for work and gone for days to weeks at a time.

--------------------------------------------

Anyways! Enough about that! Here is something I've was working on long before I left! I finally had a chance to take some pictures so now I can post about it. I'm making a quilt! I've been working on so many other little projects.....it was time.

Using a Glimma Roll of 2.5" strips I got from Westwood Acres, I began to cut. As I was sewing the pieces together I've really come to love this pallet. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'm sure that's old news to you but as for me...I finally got around to making something with this line.

I think I love it so much that I want this to be the color pallet for my daughter's room someday. As in...she doesn't have her own room yet! I'm kind of cramped in an one bedroom apartment at the moment...that's San Diego living for ya!

I went with a basket weave style. It's simple and didn't require me to cut anymore...which means the quilt won't keep shrinking. I thought about adding large solid white or grey borders but can't decide. What do you think I should do? Leave it as is?
