Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork, Please - Piece-Of-Cake Shopping Bag

Of all the projects in the book...I was sort of looking forward to this one. When it was all said and done...this bag is just plain weird. It doesn't really have any shape or anything. I just looks like a pile of fabric when it's all completed. You really have to stuff it to see what it actually is and how cute it can be. I didn't want to use my "good" fabrics so I chose some left over orange Home Decor print I happen to have a lot of and some prints that could go with it....I guess. I would probably like it better if I did use my good fabrics....sigh. I should have went with pink & purple with the orange instead of the blue. Oh well!

I consider this more of a sampler bag. I think it would be really cute if it was maybe half the size. It would just be a way more functional bag that way. There is absolutely no way I would actually shop for my groceries with this. It's so big that it would weigh a ton. It seems to be a great bag for laundry however!

I'm a Hexie Queen today with a GIVEAWAY!

Hexie Queen Hop

Welcome to my blog all Sew We Quilt readers! It's my turn on the "Be a Hexie Queen" Blog Hop.

I love hexagon projects but haven't really made any prior to this hop. Can you believe that? I don't know why it took me so long to get around to do something entirely made of hexagons. Maybe it's the fact that I don't feel like sewing them by hand one at a time or that "Y" seams are intimidating if they're precut? Those are both pretty good reasons to me...

When I first started my blog, I made a 12" mini quilt with a hexagon flower but nothing since then.

Hexagon Mini Quilt

This blog hop was a great push to get me to do something fun! I started thinking about what I wanted to do and decided to make a cute little pouch. Picking out fabrics is always the hardest best part of any project. I decided to go with only 3 prints instead picking big enough pieces from my scrap stash in all different colors. I used the "Hex N More" Ruler from Jaybird Quilts. It worked great and I was able to cut perfect 2.5" hexies for my pouch.

Well, I got over my irrational fear of "Y" seams and here's what the little cutie ended up looking like. I gotta admit...I'm impressed with my first try. I was expecting an epic fail!

Here's a few other projects I made along with this cute pouch. The Hexagon Trivet pattern is from the book "Patchwork, Please" by Ayumi Takahashi. The white one is something I whipped up a few days ago.

Hexie Queen Blog Hop

Who wants this cute little hexagon pouch? I'm comfortable enough to give it away to a special reader! I'll fill it up with a bunch of 2.5" hexagons to help get you started with a hexie project of your own! I'll make sure all the fabrics are fun modern prints in styles that I usually use. If you scroll through my blog posts you'll know what I mean. Use the rafflecopter below to enter!

(A little hint: I'm doing another giveaway on Sunday...you definitely won't want to miss it!)

Thanks for visiting my blog for the hop! I hope you have fun bouncing from blog to blog finding new inspiration for any hexagons you have laying around. Enjoy your day!

Sherbet Punch Block

Have any of you made a block from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Magazine (vol. 7) yet? I only just now open it up and picked one out. There are so many great blocks to choose from! I picked out #618 Sherbet Punch from Faith Jones of Fresh Lemon Quilts. I loved the original colors she picked out but needed to give it a punch! So I came up with my own colorful print version.

Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork, Please - Happy Hexagon Trivet

I can't believe it took me so long to make this trivet. Well not the actually making part but the getting around to sewing it together part. I've been so busy the past few days and just haven't had the time. I was determined to get it done tonight even if it meant staying up late. I had a few distractions but managed to finish it by a decent time. Picking out the fabrics from my scrap stashes took longer than actually putting it together. The name is appropriate because it does seem happy. At least to me :)

Sew Sew Modern 3 Swap - "Small" Item: Fabulous Mini

I had no idea what to make/buy my partner for their Small item for the Sew Sew Modern 3 Swap. I was going through some little doll/mini quilt booklets I had and thought it was a good idea. A quilt always goes good with a pillow...even if it's a doll quilt instead of a large queen sized one. I'm sure she'll appreciate it. I tried to use the same bright colors I used in the pillow cover

The whole piece was hand quilted with Perle Cotton in Black. I LOVE the way it turned out. If I didn't have the intention of giving it away it would be really hard to part with. I used a fun Sateen material on the back that I picked up from Crate & Barrel a few months ago. I matched the binding from the pillow cover and Voila! Another Swap Completed! I'm so anxious to see what I get in return! Everyone has made some pretty amazing things so far!

After seeing info on a Halloween swap hosted by Martha of MCSQRD...I just knew I HAD to join! I L-O-V-E Halloween. I think it's the idea of mystical, magical creatures or something. I don't have a grip of Halloween stuff though so I thought this was a great opportunity to make and receive some :)

I offered to help Martha with the swap in moderating the group and assigning partners so I'll be pretty active in the group.

My daughter is going into that fun Trick-or-Treat phase so it'll be fun!

If you're interested in having a devilishly ghoulish time, click to join in! Bahahahahah...(evil laugh)

Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork, Please - You've Got Mail Wall Pocket

This was definitely one of the projects out of the book that I wanted to make. I just LOVE this piece! Maybe because it's so dang cute and practical? I don't know what it is but I just had to make the full size version for sure!

All the envelopes are either Kona Cotton Solids or Kaffe Shot Cottons. I wanted some beautiful Kaffe prints for the envelope liners.  I wish all my mail looked like these? How fun would getting mail be? My favorite block is the green envelope with roses....so pretty!

I actually have 3 ribbon loops on the back to hang it by but no wooden dowel laying around to use them yet :(

Sorry for the bad pic!

Sew Sew Modern 3 Swap - Large Item: Pillow Cover

I went ahead and made a pillow cover as the "large" item for my partner. I hope she likes it. From the information I gathered of my partner...I think this is her style. I'm sort of hoping she doesn't like it because I will gladly keep it for myself! I love the way it turned out and how fun it is! I finished it off with hand stitching each center square, a hidden zipper on the back and did the binding by hand.

I ordered my zippers from Zipit. They carry a WIDE variety of sizes in so many colors! If you're in need of any zippers use coupon code QUARTERINCHER for 15% off your purchase in their shop!

Finished size: 12" x 18"

Now I need to work on my small item! Yay! I hope you like where this is going Partner!

Scrapbeelicious August Bee Blocks for Ashley

Here are my two blocks for Ashley! She chose the fabulous Converging Corners block! I can't wait to see it all put together! She wanted bright prints so I put them in the first block. The second block I added some navy & some patchwork strips. I hope this adds interest to the quilt. I'm sure it will break up some up the bright crazy prints she'll be seeing. Of the blocks I've seen from the others...there are a 3 or 4 color strips on the corners. I went with 2. I figured a large strip of print would look kinda cool thrown in there with all the skinny strips from everyone else. This block came together fast. I'm tempted to make a quilt of my own with it! I hope she likes these as much as I do :)

Zakka Along 2.0 Patchwork, Please - Swedish Bloom Mini Quilt

This week was yet another quilt for the Zakka Along. As usual, I have all the time in the world to make a quilt but can't commit that much effort at this time. I couldn't decide what to make the Swedish Bloom block into. I was thinking about it for days! I just decided to make it into a cute "little" wall hanging with my daughter's name on it. So the secret is out now...about her name that is :)

This "little" quilt top measures 19" x 27.5" and it's made entirely out of scraps with exception to the dot border fabric and the light pink petal center fabric.

I haven't decided on the backing for it yet. I'll probably hand quilt it. I'll post about it when it's completed.

I paper pieced her name with an awesome pattern I won from Diane of From Blank Pages. You can find the pattern on Craftsy
