Fabric Basket Swap!

So I decided to get my feet wet in the Online Swap World of quilting & sewing. I must admit I was really nervous because I've never done an official online swap before. I didn't want someone to get something from me and totally judge my work. But alas, I decided to enter into one anyways, just for funsies. I entered over at Leona's Quilting Adventure and I'm so excited now! I must admit, I DID make a sample first! I needed to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into before I could commit to anything. Anyways, you can keep tabs over at the Flickr page for the swap. I'll be posting about my basket and goodies as it's coming along.

I entered my sample basket into the Blog Button Contest for the swap and WON! Whooo!

Here is the official swap button! (This also happens to be the basket I will be giving away for the facebook giveaway as well! We need to get to 50 likes first though!)

Quilts for Boston Block

Quilts for Boston

Here's my block for "Quilts for Boston". I chose to do some hearts to show the victims some love and support. I figured it was pretty appropriate for the occasion.

Quilts for Boston Block

I can't really sum this up so I'm going to give you the excerpt from The Boston Modern Quilt Guild, You can find more info or upload block pics to the Flickr page.

One week ago this week, the usual flurry of activity in our city came to a halt and we watched with sadness and disbelief as people who came to celebrate the 117th running of the Boston marathon were injured and killed by bombs set off near the race finish line. In response to the events of the past week, the Boston Modern Quilt Guild wants to find a way to help those in our community that have been directly affected by the bombing and subsequent events.

As a guild we plan to make and distribute quilts to those who would benefit from a show of support, and we need your help.

We are asking the modern quilt community to support our efforts by sending us blocks for these quilts. Additionally, we will accept donations of fabric to be used for binding, sashing, and quilt backs. We would like to have the quilts ready to deliver to those in need as soon as possible, so we ask that you send your blocks to us within a month, by May 24th, 2013.

Blocks sent to the Boston Modern Quilt Guild should be blue, yellow, gray, and white. All blocks should be 12½” tall x the width of your choice. That could mean 12½” x 7”, 12½” x 12½”, or anything wider, more narrow, or in between. Please machine piece your blocks in any style you would like. Please use only “quilt shop quality” 100% cotton or cotton/linen fabrics. Both print and solid fabrics are welcome. Our preference is white or light gray 100% cotton thread, but any coordinating thread of good quality will do.

Please consider adding photos of the blocks to our flickr group. This is not required, but it will be wonderful to share the blocks as we are making them and to see what people are working on.

Our goal is to make bright and modern quilts that will bring cheer to those who need it most! We chose this color scheme as these are the colors of the Boston Marathon, and have become the colors representing the OneFund, an organization formed to accept monetary donations for the victims, as well as the tribute tees sold to benefit the One Fund. Be creative with your blocks, and make any pattern or design that inspires you!

Please mail all blocks and fabric to:
Quilts for Boston
P. O. Box 79225
Belmont, MA 02479

If you have any questions, please contact: bostonmqg@gmail.com

Thank you all so much for your support!

ET Phone Home Block

Here's the last block of my little 4 block paper pieced quilt! This is the ET Phone Home Block. This block was really fun! I altered the corner pieces so there wasn't another seam for no reason. You can put colors in the corners but I just wanted white. You can find the pattern over at Lily's Quilts HERE. I can't wait to finish this and show you the mini quilt all completed! Check back soon!

New Fabric Haul

I went to a few quilt shops with my Mom the other day and look at my new goodies! I'm in LOVE! I can't wait to cut these little babies up and put them to good use! I have so many visions in my head for ideas but which one to settle on??? I'm sure I'll get it all figured out soon. Since I've been doing paper piecing I decided to pick up some "End of the Bolts" of Kona White. It's always good to have on hand and they're actually decent sizes well over a yard. Ya, I think this stack outta keep me busy for awhile and out of trouble.

Basketweave Star Block

Here's another awesome paper piecing block! I did this block using some bright colorful scraps from my stash. It took a little bit of time because of all the pieces but it went by fairly quick. It definitely helps to have strips of 1.5" ready to go for this one. I'm pleased with the result. I think I'll add it to the Circle of Geese block I did HERE. You can find the pattern for this block at "The Add Crafter" HERE.

2013 Spring Blogger's Quilt Festival

Well I guess it's time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival over at Amy's Creative Side. I'm seriously debating about entering some of my quilts in a few catagories. I haven't fully decided yet. I feel like I need to make more in order to qualify! Ha! I don't think I can make THAT many before the middle of May, not likely. If any of you have something to offer, check it out! You can click the picture below to be linked to the site for more information.

I officially joined the Retro Rubies Quilt Along over at Pile O' Fabric. I'm so excited for this one! I'm due for some serious practice on my curves. The magazine has been pre-ordered and now I need to decide what fabric to use. Prints, solids...Got any ideas?

Circle of Geese Block

I've been seeing so many awesome paper piecing patterns & blocks out there! I thought I'd give it another go. My paper piecing skills are a little rusty but never the less, I seemed to manage it. I decided to try this cute little number...The circle of geese block. You can get the pattern over at Piece by Number HERE. I'm really pleased with the way it came out. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Make more blocks, add it to a stash of random 12" blocks, make a bag with it.....we'll see. I'll be trying it again with colorful prints or greytones again soon. I might just do 4 blocks and make a mini quilt to hang up. It's so darn cute and needs to be displayed! As all quilts do I suppose. I'll post the final quilt top when I'm done with it. Give me a day or so for the update.

Yummy Fat Quarter Shop Blogger's Choice Bundles!

A hopeful weekend of sewing was a mere dream and I was left cleaning up my place & spending time with my daughter. She is at that fun age of 9 months and she is such a happy baby. Sewing just wasn't going to happen...sigh. Oh well, we still have all week to start and finish such projects. In the meantime  I did manage to to some quilty "research"...haha. Looking at quilts, sewing ideas & projects is like porn for me. I just can't help it! And pinterest....don't even get me started! You know what I'm talking about...spending hours and hours pinning and pinning. We all do it. We say to ourselves "just a couple more minutes" or "after this one" or "I just want to look for one thing I saw earlier" or whatever. Haha. You don't have to explain yourself to me. It's ok, I forgive you and your eager crafty soul. It's not your fault. You just need to forgive yourself and actually make one of these so-called "pins" you spend hours of you life with. I'm guilty too. I'll soon start pinterest worthy posts and let you see the end result of these little charms I've found.

Ironing Board Makeover!

With a new kitchen curtain up...I decided to makeover my ironing board cover too! In some of my pictures you can see the fabric of my ironing board. It's pink , brown & tan damask. There's actually nothing wrong with it. It's still in excellent condition. It is however starting to bore me. So I decided to re-cover my ironing board with some pretty bright fabric that makes me happy. What fabric did I choose, you ask? I chose a beloved designer I admire....Denyse Schmidt with Flea Market Fancy...of course! I went with the turquoise bouquet fabric. I am seriously obsessed with this line and this particular print & color! The large print and fun colors will be perfect for an ironing board cover!

Kitchen Window Makeover!

Last night I decided to take my old ugly Walmart curtain down, inspect it, and make my own. I didn't make one as frilly but the fabric print is enough to bring the window some life.

What's better than yellow lemons for the kitchen?! Alexander Henry's Lemon print was perfect!

Blogging 101

Many of you may notice a big change on my blog....NO more scrolling down FOREVER to see everything on my posts!!!! I've cleaned it up and updated every post with bigger pictures & links to see the whole post.

I used to have a personal blog and write about random stuff in my life. BUT it was such a hassle with the old style Blogger especially when it came to uploading pictures. I quickly gave up because I didn't have time to load 1 picture at a time and let it load forever. I was just so over it...

I'm pretty computer savvy but it was so archaic and took forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus I have almost ZERO patience for computer hiccups & waiting on things to load up. I need things to happen instantly for me. I need the fastest computer to work for me!

Then Blogger changed everything and made it SO use friendly and so much easier to get a post published! Since I've started blogging about quilting...I've learned so much about codes and what you can and cannot do with everything. Searching and searching for what I need (or don't need) on my blog has never been easier. I was looking at my blog and can't stand the way you scroll for days and days to get to the end. Pictures take a long time to load for people and I don't want all my post info to show up on the homepage. SOOO, I figured out how to show just a snippet of the post! It makes the homepage look so clean and neat. You just click on the Post Header to see the whole post and all the pictures! I also created a link for you to click on the see the full post at the bottom of each post snippet.

I was so EXCITED when I figured this out that I HAD to share it with you! I know some of you are probably thinking..."She just NOW figured that out?"...haha...yes I know. It really wasn't a big deal for me before. Then I started posting lots of pictures and I felt like I was scrolling down FOREVER! Some of you may be thinking "WOW, how did she do that?!"- Oh my heavens!...It was SO easy that it was stupid! It was in front of my face to WHOLE time! When you're writing your post, Click The "Insert Jump Page" (little broken page icon at the top) to separate your post snippet from the rest of the post.

Anyways...enough about that. Time to sew!

Catch up! AND Aurifil Designer of the Month Blocks

Guess what I did last night? Yep! I stayed up and did some sewing! Whoo-hoo! It's about time. You were probably starting to ask yourself.."Does this girl ever sew or just blog about stuff she's bought?" Haha...yes I really do sew. To be honest though, I have to be in the mood because having an 8-month old really makes it difficult. I usually wait until she goes down for bedtime. If my husband, baby & dog are asleep...there's no distractions and I can sew sew sew! Anyways, last post I mentioned quilting bees. I decided to sit my butt down and catch up on the Aurifil Designer of the Month quilt along. This time around I went with a fresh &  bright look using one particular print as my color guide & inspiration. Here are my blocks so far...
