Hexagons, Hexagons, Hexagons!

Today I'll be showing you how to make hexagons!
Here is a little sneak peak at my hexie stash. I just use scraps of all quilting projects and do a little at a time.

I know, I know...it's a lot of work to make one of these quilts..but it's so worth it! I'll be demonstrating how to make a flower. Whether you continue to make more hexagons into a pillow or quilt is up to you! I'll be using some of my scraps for this project. Since I just organized them by color, it was easy to decide what to do for the flower- a rainbow!

So I had the opportunity to try a new scallop ruler on one of my quilts- The Easy Scallop Quilt Ruler by Darlene Zimmerman. Man! This thing is amazing! It made scallop borders a breeze!

Burp Cloths & Receiving Blanket

So I I've been eyeballing some flannel lately and found the cutest prints at JoAnn's. I went with these particular prints because a friend of mine is having a baby boy. She painted his nursery "Where the Wild Things Are" themed. The Monster print goes perfectly....even though they aren't the same monsters...they'll do. Here are the goodies...

Scrap Therapy

Today I decided to go through my scraps and separate them by color. I just used a bunch of them on the Moda Friendship Quilt Along quilt I did. By the time I was getting to the bottom of the stash, I realized that my fabric choices were not what I had originally thought! I never knew I had so much Blue & Green and so little Red. I love all colors and don't have a preference as far as a favorite. I don't really care for purple but I love when it's paired with jewel tones, it's so beautiful. Anyways, I wanted to share my little fabric scraps pic with you. Any ideas on how I should use them? I was thinking of making a String Quilt...what do you think?

Newest Fabric!

Hello! I wanted to show you my latest fabric purchases. Some of these were bought for specific projects in mind and some were not (hehe, I couldn't resist). Most of these are premium cotton prints but some are cheapies from Joann. I didn't need premium material for some projects I was working on, just something pretty. I usually buy my fabric on sale or with some sort of discount if possible. Trust me, at about $12 a yard for the good stuff, I'd be sooo broke all the time and wouldn't be showing you this.

Some of these I've had for a little while but most are pretty brand new to my collection! Sizes range from 1/4 Yard to 2 yards. YAY for Fabric!

My Newest Quilt Books

Hello fellow quilters or quilters in training! Happy Monday to you all!

Ok, I've been a total sucker for quilt books lately. I usually get all my patterns from Moda Bakeshop. They're cute, use the latest collections, most of the time are original, and most of all- FREE!  I've made many quilts from that site and will continue to do so as well. BUT I wanna talk about my new quilt BOOKS.

First up- The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird. This book has 111 letters and 6"x6" blocks dating from the 1920's. The finished quilt has four size options sizing up to 103"x103" King size. I can't wait to start this project but I know that once I start it, I won't be able to stop and/or work on anything else. So I see the good and bad in starting this one. Take a look at this Flickr Group to see some blocks

My Newest Notions...

Hello again!
wanted to show you some other Notions besides the basics. Actually the Clover Wonder Clips mentioned in my previous post would fall in this category.

First up is the Dritz Spray Adhesive. This stuff works great for any "quilt-as-you-go" projects or setting your batting before basting it.. If you click on that word there is a wonderful explanation of what this means.

National Quilting Day

I was reading the Moda Blog (The Cutting Table) and wanted to share this with you...

National Quilting Day is tomorrow Saturday March 16, 2013! What a perfect time to launch this website and promote the joy of quilting! March is National Craft month after all! This wonderful day is held the 3rd Saturday of March every year. This year it is on March 16. National Quilting day was first declared by the members of the National Quilting Association in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1991. Since then, it has expanded to include the entire month of March...yay!

This year's theme is for National Quilting Day is "Celebrate America!" People all over from from quilters, to quilt shops & quilt guilds all over the country are planning special events. This year the National Quilting Association suggests organizing a service day, teaching children to quilt, or creating a quilt to give to a member of the armed services. Click here for free patterns provided for this occasion by them HERE.

Check back tomorrow because I will be posting my FIRST project & tutorial to mark the occasion! YAY! This is your chance to learn a new skill or project! Feel free to email me with any questions or if you need some help!

Welcome to my quilting blog!

Ok ladies (and gentlemen who may be reading)...it's time to get serious about this! Here's a little back story about my quilting history and blah blah blah...

I was forced given the opportunity to do a "project" of some kind by my mother when I was in high school for summer. She wanted her daughters (4 of us) to do something productive with our summer out of school. She told us to choose something we can complete before the next school year started and have fun with it. I thought about it and decided to make a quilt! She is an excellent quilter and I figured she can "help" me with the sewing (wink wink).
